Combine collagen-boosting microneedles with skin-tightening radiofrequency. A complete first-session walkthrough.
A 5-minute walkthrough of preparing skin, performing the first patch, the main session, and aftercare for RF microneedling at home.
RF microneedling combines two technologies: tiny needles that create controlled micro-channels in the skin, and radiofrequency energy that heats the deeper tissue to stimulate collagen. The first session is when you establish your baseline tolerance and learn the technique.
Standard microneedling only creates the channels. RF microneedling adds heat at controlled depth, which dramatically increases collagen response and skin tightening.
Unlike cavitation, RF microneedling is uncomfortable without numbing. Apply lidocaine 5% cream 20 minutes before, then wipe off thoroughly before treatment.
Your skin will be red and slightly swollen for 24-48 hours after treatment. Schedule your session 2 days before any important event, not the day before.

Pillar 2
RF microneedling looks intimidating but follows a clear, repeatable pattern. Your first session establishes the foundation for the next 3-6 sessions over the coming weeks.
| Step | Why this matters |
|---|---|
| Apply numbing cream 20 min prior | Without it, the session is genuinely uncomfortable. Lidocaine 5% topical is standard. |
| Cleanse face thoroughly | Any oils or makeup residue can be pushed into the micro-channels and cause irritation. |
| Pat skin completely dry | Water on the skin reduces RF effectiveness. |
| Set depth to 0.5mm | Start shallow. You can go deeper in future sessions when your tolerance is established. |
| Have post-treatment serum ready | You will apply within 1 minute of finishing - prep everything before starting. |
Double cleanse: oil-based first, then gel cleanser. Pat dry completely.
If using, apply lidocaine 5% and wait 20-30 minutes. Wipe off completely before treatment.
First session always starts at the shallowest depth setting (0.5mm) regardless of your goals.
Thin layer of pure HA serum across treatment area. Provides glide and post-treatment hydration.
Press straight down (not drag). 1-second contact per spot. Move 5mm and repeat.
Same stamping pattern across each zone. Avoid eye area and lips.
Peptide or growth factor serum immediately after. Channels open 30 min for max absorption.
Expected. Like a series of tiny pinpricks.
RF energy heats tissue. Should be warm but not unbearable.
Normal vascular response. Subsides over 4-24 hours.
STOP. RF energy too high. Reduce by 1-2 levels and continue.
STOP. Indicates skin burn. Apply cool compress. Skip remaining treatment.
Pinpoint bleeding normal at depths above 1mm. Should stop within 5 minutes.
Mistake
Going deeper than 0.5mm on first session
Consequence
Excessive bleeding, prolonged recovery, scarring risk.
Do this instead
Always 0.5mm for session 1. Increase 0.25mm per session if tolerated.
Mistake
Dragging instead of stamping
Consequence
Tearing of skin, micro-channels widen, irregular results.
Do this instead
Press straight down, lift straight up. Move position, repeat.
Mistake
Skipping numbing or moisture
Consequence
Unnecessary pain, dry skin tears, poor results.
Do this instead
Always use numbing for chin/forehead. Always apply HA serum first.
Mistake
Treating eye area or lips
Consequence
Severe bruising, possible nerve damage.
Do this instead
Stay 1cm away from eyes and lip line. Use lower depth in delicate zones.
First hour after treatment:
First 24 hours:
Days 2-7:
With proper numbing cream, most users report 3-4 on a 1-10 pain scale. Without numbing, it can be 7-8. Always use numbing cream.
