The Science

CO2 carries the highest post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk of any device covered here. It is best on Fitzpatrick I–III; types IV–V require very conservative settings and pre/post pigment management; type VI is generally not recommended—use RF microneedling instead.
Safety
Class IV laser with a smoke plume—use eyewear and a surgical smoke evacuator. Strict aseptic aftercare prevents infection of the ablated surface. Pre-treat darker skin to reduce PIH risk and never treat over active infection. This is a physician-level procedure in most jurisdictions.
