Pressotherapy uses an inflatable garment with multiple chambers that fill and release in sequence, gently squeezing the limbs from the extremities toward the body. This mimics manual lymphatic drainage on a larger scale—moving lymph and venous blood, reducing fluid retention and swelling, and supporting detox, slimming and recovery.
The Science
The lymphatic system has no central pump—it relies on muscle movement to move fluid. Pressotherapy provides that movement mechanically. A garment of sequential air chambers inflates from the distal ends inward (feet/hands toward the trunk), creating a wave of pressure that pushes lymph and venous blood along their natural one-way pathways toward the lymph nodes.
The result is reduced fluid retention and edema, improved circulation and venous return, and a lighter, less swollen feeling—especially in heavy, tired legs. It is widely used for post-procedure and post-liposuction recovery, athletic recovery, water-retention slimming support and general detox. Because it is gentle and passive, clients simply relax through the session.
Pressotherapy is mechanical lymphatic drainage at scale: sequential compression does the pumping the lymphatic system cannot do on its own.
The Process
The client puts on the boots/suit; programs and pressure are set.
Chambers inflate distal-to-proximal in repeating waves.
The client relaxes for 30–45 minutes during the cycle.
Hydration is advised to support continued clearance.
Indications
Relieves tired, fluid-retaining legs.
Reduces edema and water retention.
Supports recovery after liposuction and body treatments.
Speeds muscle recovery and reduces fatigue.
Why Pressotherapy
The client relaxes while the machine works.
Visibly lighter legs and less puffiness.
No pigment interaction.
Complements body, recovery and detox programs.
Clinical Evidence
Journal of Vascular Surgery · 2012
Demonstrated reduced limb volume and improved venous/lymphatic return.
International Journal of Sports Medicine · 2015
Supported faster recovery and reduced post-exercise swelling.
Skin Safety
| I | II | III | IV | V | VI | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sequential Compression | Safe | Safe | Safe | Safe | Safe | Safe |
Pressotherapy is mechanical compression and safe on all skin tones (I–VI). Screening is medical (vascular, cardiac, renal), not skin-related.
Safety
Compression therapy is contraindicated in deep vein thrombosis (risk of dislodging a clot), severe heart failure and uncontrolled edema of cardiac/renal origin. Screen carefully, start at moderate pressure, and stop if the client reports pain or numbness.

For Operators
| Area | Energy | Pulse | Spot | Freq | Cooling | Passes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legs (drainage) | 40–80 mmHg | 30–45 min | Boots | Sequential | None | Multiple cycles |
| Recovery | 60–100 mmHg | 20–30 min | Boots | Sequential | None | Multiple cycles |
Two drainage approaches with different strengths.
Local negative-pressure massage.
✓ Pros
Targeted cellulite and lifting.
✕ Cons
More hands-on; not whole-limb.
Therapist-performed massage.
✓ Pros
Highly tailored.
✕ Cons
Labor-intensive and not scalable.
Pressotherapy is the scalable, hands-free whole-limb drainage option; pair with vacuum suction for local shaping.
Operator Training
Training covers garment fitting, pressure and program selection, vascular/cardiac contraindication screening and combination with recovery and detox programs.
FAQ
Like a firm, rhythmic squeeze moving up the limbs—most clients find it deeply relaxing.
“Pressotherapy is our easiest, most relaxing add-on. Clients book it for heavy legs and recovery and rebook constantly.”
