Thermal coagulation is the heat-induced denaturing and contraction of tissue proteins—chiefly collagen. HIFU creates precise points of thermal coagulation at depth to produce immediate tightening and trigger new collagen.
Thermal coagulation occurs when tissue is heated to roughly 60–70°C, causing its proteins—especially collagen—to denature and contract, much as an egg white turns firm and white when cooked. Controlled and confined, this is a powerful tightening tool.
HIFU is the clearest example. Focused ultrasound concentrates energy at a precise depth to create tiny, discrete thermal coagulation points—deep in the dermis or at the SMAS—while leaving the skin above and between them untouched. Two things follow: the immediate contraction of existing collagen gives an instant tightening, and the body’s repair response drives fibroblasts to build new collagen over the following months for progressive lifting. Because the coagulation points are tiny and separated, the treatment is non-invasive with minimal downtime.
