The alexandrite laser emits a 755nm wavelength that is very strongly absorbed by melanin in the hair — more so than longer wavelengths. That high absorption makes it fast and powerful, and particularly effective on fine and lighter hair that diode and Nd:YAG can find harder to target.
Because 755nm is also absorbed by skin pigment, alexandrite is best suited to light to olive skin tones and is not the right choice for dark or tanned skin (where Nd:YAG is safer).
