Adipocytes are fat-storage cells. They are the target of every body-contouring technology—cryolipolysis, cavitation, laser lipo and injection lipolysis—each of which either destroys them or empties them of stored fat.
Adipocytes are the cells that store energy as fat, sitting in the subcutaneous layer beneath the dermis. Their number is largely fixed in adulthood, which is the scientific basis for non-surgical fat reduction: destroy a portion of them and that fat-storage capacity is gone for good.
